Another brief update...

Heidi again...

Another good day for the little man. They took off his pulse ox monitor because he was doing so well and doesn't need it anymore, so there is 1 less wire attached to him. They're planning on taking out the IV line in his umbilical cord around 3 o'clock today. Then, other than the EKG leads, the only other thing remaining will be his nasogastric tubes, which is being used for 4 out of his 8 daily feedings. They are increasing his bottle feeds to 4 times daily today, so once we get the remaining 4, he can come home!! His nurse said that sometimes there is a little setback once they get to 5 bottle feeds/day, but because he is a term baby, he may just cruise right through.

I'll be working with the lactation consultant at 2pm today to try to get that going better, too. They said that no matter how well that goes, he'll need to be bottle fed initially as well to make sure he is getting enough food. They continue to say that babies as sick as he was take some time to get the hang of breast feeding, so I'll trust them on that. I'm praying that we'll get the hang of it soon.

It's another good sign that the nurse started asking questions about things that we'll need to get in order before discharge. His nurse told me to make sure we have plenty of bed linens as he soaks through them several times daily :) Dr. Reddy is here again today (she was the one who was here the night he was transferred) and she said several times how pleased she is at how he is doing. She called him a troublemaker, but said he was a cute one and that he looks like his daddy.

Shane went back to work today so that once Connor comes home, he can hopefully take another few days off to be there to help out when he gets home. He was able to come by the hospital during lunch and held Connor briefly to prevent going through withdrawal.
