Outstanding News!

For those of you who have been praying for Connor, we have some tremendous news to praise God for this morning...

Heidi and I were a little late for our touch-time this morning, so we missed changing his diaper, etc, but, the news we received when we arrived overshadowed all of that.

As soon as Heidi got back to him this morning, the first thing she noticed was he no longer was on the high-frequency ventilator!

It was so much more quiet and peaceful in his little room (bay).

He's now on a standard ventilator. They are giving him 30% oxygen (reminder that the air you and I breathe is 21%).

It appears the high-frequency ventilator can cause your blood pressure to drop, so, now that he is on the standard ventilator, they will start weaning his dopamine (blood pressure support). In fact, she was about to start weaning when we got back there.

They started feeding him Heidi's milk! Well, the first feeds were colostrum, but feeding him her milk will come soon.

The touch times have changed to 4 times/day, so we'll now get to interact with him at 8, 11, 2, and 5!

They are no longer suctioning or putting a vacuum on his chest tube. It's basically just a water seal now for you medical types. In other words, the chest tubes are in, but they aren't doing anything! He is on his own right now as far as that goes! If he has a problem, they can put it to suction again, but, they've taken the training wheels off, so to speak. :) So far, no new collapsed lungs!

He is still getting phototherapy for his jaundice, but his bilirubin level was down from a high of 15.6 to 14.6.

So, all in all, much to celebrate and give thanks for this morning! Thank you all for your prayers and thought and words of encouragement and support. There is more than a little light at the end of the tunnel! (We're excited, if you can't tell... :))

  1. and, yes, I know we are encouraged to praise God even in the midst of the worst of news, but I don't know that I have the faith of Job just yet, if ever ("though He slay me, yet I will trust in Him"), ...the best I could do in the worst of these days was to offer Connor at His feet and His will be done...I'm just thankful He's given us this gift and has seen Connor through these rough few days thus far...

  9. So happy - So excited for your new little family. Sounds to me like your faith level has been awesome given the fact that you could actually offer Connor at His feet and pray His will be done. That is the ultimate trust! God is Good - and even though we don't understand the reasons for everything we walk through, God is Good! Enjoy each moment and have no fear. God is Good!
